Ian’s poems and poetry workshops are in a different league!

Steve Bower
BBC Match of the Day Presenter/ Commentator

Ian had our children captivated right from the moment he started his assembly. His poetry so enthralled the children, they were laughing out loud throughout (as were the staff!).

The rest of the day sailed by with every class thoroughly enjoying Ian’s enthusiastic and inspiring workshops. The celebration assembly at the end of the day showcased the fabulous poems the children had written and gave the parents an opportunity to see what had been done during the sessions. We will most certainly be inviting Ian back to our school, a wonderful day was had by all.

There were a lot of smiles and a lot of laughter from everyone involved. The children went away with a strong sense of achievement and the teachers with a great deal more insight into the abilities of their pupils. A very positive experience!

Colin Fisher - Literacy Coordinator
Runnymede International School

You know a speaker in a school is good, when the students want him to do ‘more’ in their break time! Ian has the students (and the staff) eating out of the palms of his hands with his humorous verse and obvious awareness of school life. With all his audience participation, everyone forgets that they are attending a poetry workshop. An annual ‘must’ for our Bookweek!

Lorna Brentnall - Librarian
Abraham Darby Academy

I thought he was excellent. He had lots of energy and I felt his enthusiasm communicated itself to the children; in the workshop the children were very keen to produce poems.

What a super day! Through Ian’s assembly and workshops, poetry became exciting, enjoyable and achievable – such a success for our pupils. Staff and pupils were enthused and many parents were keen to purchase signed books at the end of the day to encourage a further love of poetry in their pupils. Already booked for next year!

Stacy McHale - Assistant Headteacher
Northwood Park Primary School

Both of Ian Bland’s sessions were quite simply amazing! I attended his workshops last time he visited the school and I was most impressed then, but somehow the energy and enthusiasm from the children in the sessions this time surpassed what I remember from the last visit. It was great to see them obviously getting so much fun and enjoyment from what is a great learning experience.
