🌿 Calming Poetry Activities for SEMH Pupils | Breathing, Rhythm & Focus KS2
In SEMH and EBD settings, there are moments when pupils need to pause, breathe, reset and feel safe before they learn again.
Poetry can be a powerful calming tool.
The right rhythm, tone and breathing pattern helps pupils:
🧘 Regulate big emotions
🎤 Use their voice gently
💬 Slow down speech & thoughts
🌬 Practise mindful breathing
🎧 Tune in to rhythm
❤️ Feel grounded & safe
In my poetry workshops for SEMH and EBD schools, I often begin — or reset a session — with gentle voice work, repetition and slow movement. It creates calm, belonging and emotional safety.

Breathe In, Breathe Out
Breathe in slowly… one, two, three
Breathe out gently… just like meSit up tall, feel calm and still

You are safe, you are alright
