❄️ KS2 Frozen-Inspired Winter Poems | Magical Snow & Ice Poetry Ideas
Winter is the perfect time to bring a little magic into your poetry lessons. Children LOVE the enchanted world of snow queens, icy castles, sparkling forests and brave winter heroes. These Frozen-inspired KS2 poetry activities will help your class create imaginative winter poems using imagery, figurative language and performance techniques.
Perfect for Years 3–6, this post includes vocabulary banks, model poems, writing frames and winter poetry prompts.
Use the poems to help children imagine a Frozen-like world. Then explore ideas from the vocabulary bank, character writing framework and figurative language guide before inspiring them to create their own Frozen-style winter poem!
If this style of poetry inspires your class, I’d love to work with them in an Online Poetry Workshop or Poetry Day in your school.

❄️ 2. Model Poem: The Snow Queen’s Promise
In the moonlit hush of the winter sky
I rise with a cloak made of shimmering ice.
Frost curls softly beneath my feet,
As I whisper a promise to the sleeping night…
I’ll guard the forests of silver and blue,
Where icicles dance and the cold winds chill.
I’ll weave a spell through the drifting snow,
So the world can sparkle with winter’s glow.
But when dawn arrives on a golden flame,
My icy magic will fade away…
And I’ll wait in the shadows of the frozen trees,
For winter’s call to return to me.
Use this model to discuss imagery, setting, mood and performance skills.
❄️ 3. Model Poem: Olaf’s Cousin (Almost)
I’m made of snow, from head to toe,
My nose is not a carrot though —
It’s a pencil mum found in the drawer,
(It falls off every time I roar!)
My scarf is knitted, bright and long,
My smile is wide, my laugh is strong.
But every time the fire is lit…
I’m OUT the door — I melt a bit!
Great for humour, rhythm and lower KS2 performance.
❄️ 4. Writing Frame: Create Your Own Winter Character
Ask pupils to invent a magical winter character. Guide them with:
-
Who are they? (Snow King, Icy Traveller, Forest Guardian…)
-
What do they protect? (frozen lakes, crystal forests, silent mountains…)
-
What can their magic do? (snowstorms, healing snow, winter songs…)
-
What challenge must they face?
Provide a simple writing frame:
My name is…
I guard the…
My magic can…
But one day…
And so I…
